Information for Presenters

The conference aims to encourage the sharing of new research in a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere: formal dress, suits, collars and ties, etc. are not required. We strongly encourage presentations that include sound and music as part of the dissemination process.

Authors are requested to note the following arrangements for the presentation of papers and posters.

Oral Presentation (Short Papers and Full Papers)

Each session will be overseen by a Session Chair, who will ensure that each presentation runs to time and will manage the Q&A. Please make sure you meet up with the chair of your session and fellow presenters 10 minutes before the session is due to start, at the location for the session.

  • Short Paper presentations will be allocated a total of 20 minutes each: 15 minutes for presentation + 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
  • Full Paper presentations will be allocated a total of 25 minutes each: 20 minutes for presentation + 5 minutes for questions and discussion.

Changeovers between presenters will take place during the 5 minute question and discussion at the end of each talk. Presenters and session chairs will be required to ensure that the changeovers between presentations goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible in order to keep to the schedule for the session. Presenters will have access to standard AV equipment. Personal computers can be used for presentations, but we require presenters to bring any special connectors necessary.

If you are not the first presenter in your session, you should go to the front of the room and set up your presentation as soon as the previous presenter starts taking questions. This is to ensure a smooth transition between presentations. Please however do not start to show your slides until the question and answers for the previous presenter are completely finished.

Please be diligent in checking that your presentation works with no technical hitches in the location where you are to present.

Poster Presentations

Posters may be displayed in any reasonable format. An area up to A1 (59.4 x 84.1 cm) size, either landscape or portrait orientation will be available for each poster. Poster presenters may prepare a single, large poster or simply display the pages of their original submission or use any appropriate combination of text and diagrams.

Although there will be an allocated poster sessions within the conference programme, during which time poster authors/presenters are expected to be available to discuss their work with delegates, poster space will be available throughout the conference. Posters may be displayed, and will be visible, from the beginning of the conference to the end. Each poster paper will have a reserved poster board displaying the title of the related paper.

By default, only poster boards will be provided for poster presentations. If other material/equipment is needed for your poster presentation please specify your needs by email to the AM 2018 Chair, Stuart Cunningham (s.cunningham@mmu.ac.uk) by 10 August 2018 (e.g. table, chairs, access to a power socket, if you would like to make a demo from a laptop accompanying your poster). We will check if the necessary arrangements can be made.

Please note that it will not be possible to use loudspeakers to play audio examples during Poster sessions, so not to affect other presentations. Presenters should in this case provide headphones for attendees.
